Welcome to the Oxford Street Bookshop
The Oxford Street Bookshop is situated in Whitstable, a delightfully quirky and much loved Kentish town that has become a popular tourist destination for events such as the yearly Whitstable Oyster Festival.
Whitstable is renowned for its vast choice of independent shops and one of the most popular is the Oxford Street Bookshop which so elegantly captures the quintessential and charming spirit of the town.
With over 30,000 books in stock across two floors, we invite you to browse our distinctive shop, where every turn leads you to another seemingly hidden room full of beautiful books. With every twist and turn, you can discover both fiction and non-fiction titles, find classics or peruse our selection of rare, collectible titles, some dating back to the 17th century. We also have many signed and first editions in stock.
The Oxford Street Bookshop is a Mecca for book lovers, a true treasure trove of delights and we'd love to invite you to come and visit us!
After a long successful trading history, former owner Brian Hitcham decided to sell the business and Oxford Street Bookshop found itself with two new owners who shared his passion for books and love of antiquities.
Tiziana & Michael are both well known local residents who have run other successful ventures in Whitstable. In November 2016, they took ownership of the bookshop with a bold vision to enhance and improve the business. With it's new owners in place, the shop underwent a rapid transformation including opening up the old cellar into a reading room that clearly reflected their love of Deco period furniture.
With around 30,000 books currently in stock, the books have been indexed into alphabetical order with new categories being introduced all the time. The range of rare, collectible and first editions have been expanded, scattered around over both floors are now a gorgeous range of both antiques, curiosities and furniture for sale, much from the Deco period.
Tiziana & Michael have some exciting plans for the bookshop in the coming months, including a coffee shop, late night opening and some special events.
